KOSOVO
With
respect to the atrocious situation in Kosova, it is important to understand
the perpetuators of oppression and the reasons behind the horrendous slayings
of innocent Muslims in this province. A diaspora of ethnic Albanians fled
to Kosova only to find more oppression than they had witnessed in their
previous homeland. This aggression, however, came after years of peaceful
co-existence with Orthodox Christians surrounding the Kosova province.
Unfortunately, a revitalized Serbian nationalism overwhelmed the neighbors
of Kosova, and the once-peaceful lives of countless Albanians were devastated
by a newly found sense of nationalism that promoted genocide as its most
valuable ally.
The Albanians of Kosova (90% Muslim) were considered to be polluting
the cultural homeland of the Serbs, and consequently, the Serbian-supported
pursuit of prejudice has led to countless deaths and persecutions. Sadly,
the unbearable oppression by Serb leader Slobodan Milosevic continues to
this day despite Serbian concessions and NATO appeals to withdraw from
the Kosova province. These Muslim remnants of the Ottoman Empire are continually
assaulted and slaughtered, and the sustained call for help and security
goes unanswered. One can only marvel at this tragic situation and the unavenged,
unprovoked, and unprecedented devastation in this once-peaceful community.
