Occupy Wall St: Police Run Down Protesters Print E-mail

Much like the running of the bulls in Pamplana, police motorcyles in a V-like formation charge OWS protesters. One man lost his balance and was run over by a police motorcycle.  The victim was an observer from the National Lawyers Guild. He was visiblely in pain as the police officer on the motorcycle pinned him under the rear wheel. Witnesses said that man was shouting in pain and his ankle was bleeding. Police officers eventually pulled that man out and arrested him.

A National Lawyers Guild observer reacts after being run over by a New York City police officer as Occupy Wall Street demonstrators march through the streets near Wall Street Oct. 14, 2011, in New York. The cleanup of a plaza in lower Manhattan where protesters have been camped out for a month was postponed, sending cheers up from a crowd that had feared the effort was merely a pretext to evict them.

Radio station WINS-AM reported that police descended on some protesters, wielding their nightsticks and batons. A police captain reportedly hurled his megaphone and wound up rolling around in the street with a protester. A WINS-AM reporter said he was pushed around by police. A number of arrests have been made, WINS-AM reports.

The protesters ended up circling back and returning to Zuccotti Park.

Police arrested at least eight people on Beaver Street, as a throng of protesters flipped over a police scooter on Broadway. Cuffed protesters yelled, 'The whole world is watching!' Shame on you!' Five more were arrested at Maiden Lane and Water Steeet when protesters got into a confrontation with a police officer on a scooter. A protester's leg ended up under the officer's scooter.
