Subject:urgent: wanna give?
hi everyone - Many of you gave me $ for haiti, so I have sent you this notice...
I have been asked by pakistani authorities to be part of a emergency relief team for the flood victims in pakistan. Apparently the UN has labeled it a worse disaster than tsunami / haiti combined. here is an excerpt:
13 million affected as of today Sindh, 15 districts completely flooded Confirmed death toll many thousands but numbers not accurate since flood waters continue to tear away at populated areas in Sindh Tarbela dam is at a critical height, may need to be opened, this will be a catastrophic scenario UN declares the disaster larger than the mega 3 (Tsunami, Haiti, & 05' Pk quake) combined
some of you may know I have led medical relief missions in India / Baghdad, in the US, and recently Haiti. I am not a "company man" so I go with whomever I judge doing the most effective care...so I have been with various NGO's.
Ironically, Pakistan has a robust pharmaceutical manufacturing base - but the poor can't get to it. So we won't have to bring as much stuff with us as we did to haiti...we just need funds to mobilize the goods + doctors who specialize in disaster mgmt.
So if you want to donate money - I can assure you it will go directly to patient care / medicine / medical support... instead of being lost in some beurocratic maze.
This is because I personally carry it and get it to where it needs ot go, rather than you giving $ to some address or website.
Time is short - but I am leaving thursday the 12th. . If you are in a position to give (anything is significant)...Just e-mail me how much you wanna give - and I will take money out from my own account, and hopefully you can re-imburse me when i return.
If you mail me a check, I may be gone by the time it arrives...so i'll cover whatever you pledge for now.
here is my mailing address:

IMAMIA MEDICS INTERNATIONAL
Pakistan Flood Relief
More than 4 million people in Pakistan have lost their homes and livelihoods by extensive flash flooding caused by the severe monsoon season and more than 1,600 have lost their lives. The rains are expected to worsen. Make an emergency gift to support IMI’s efforts to assist survivors in Pakistan.
IMI responded immediately to the disaster and opened the first emergency medical relief clinic on August 2, 2010. Within days, we expanded to operate eight medical camps across Punjab—including in Shahpur, Haji Shah, Naushera, Qasimabad/Sahiwal, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Chuk #1160-DDA Layyah. Each of these camps is operating 24 hours a day, with 2-3 medical doctors and 2-3 volunteers on hand, and averages between 300-500 patients daily. Additional camps are being planned in Sindh: Khairpur, Dadu, and Sukkur.
