Occupied Jerusalem: 18 September, 2002 (IAP News)
At least two Palestinians and three Israelis, including a soldier, were killed Wednesday in fresh violence in Palestine.
A Palestinian youth with an explosive belt strapped to his waist blew himself up beside an Israeli police car outside the city of Umm al Fahem in northern Palestine Wednesday afternoon, killing himself and a policeman.
Another soldier was injured in the incident.
The Israeli occupation army said the Palestinian bomber was likely on his way to carry out a suicide bombing in a nearby Jewish town.
The bombing was the first of its kind in seven weeks and some observers attribute it to the sustained Israeli repression of the Palestinians.
Elsewhere, a Jewish settler was killed and another injured when Palestinian guerillas attacked the car the settlers were riding.
The incident took place near the Palestinian town of Jenin hours after Israeli occupation troops killed a Palestinian activist in the area.
Earlier, the charred body of a Jewish settler from the settlement of Ma’ali Adomim east of Al-Quds was found at a garbage dump near the nearby Palestinian village of Eizariya.
The Israeli army imposed curfew on the village and began rounding up local youths.
The Zionist government blamed the Palestinian Authority for the “escalation of violence.”
The PA rejected charges to that effect, arguing that sustained Israeli repression of Palestinian civilians was to blame.
